9:00AM - 10:00AM ANATOMY OF A SUCCESSFUL OPTICAL BUSINESS

This course will begin with a description of a highly upscale optical boutique with locations in NYC, Boston, Chicago, Palm Beach, ect.. including descriptions of decor and how great care with taken in small details, which added comfort for the patient's optical experience. Although the model used is an upscale version, the same concepts apply to all optical business. Applying the techniques to maintain a consistent high level of service can only improve business...no matter what part of the market share. 1 ABO and 1 NCLE credit.

10:15AM - 11:15AM: TRANSFORMING SACRED COW INTO PURPLE COW

How do you make your practice stand out from the rest of the crowd? In a world filled with endless consumer choice for care, products and services, being "different" is becoming a very difficult challenge. We explore "sacred cows" that prevents responsiveness to new opportunities and inhibits change. We will also present "purple cows" that offer examples of how you stand out in the world of "sameness." 1 ABO and 1 NCLE 

11:30AM - 12:30PM: ADVANCED OPTICS - THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

Ophthalmic Optics encompasses geometric, applied, and physiological optics. Optical formulas play a role in understanding these spectacle and contact lens arrays. Join Master Optician, PhernellWalker in this fun course as he shares his own latest formula combination to identify the refractive index of the unknown material, explore ramifications of lens horizontal and vertical tilt, advance resolving and resultant prism and optics of contact lenses vs. eyewear. 1 Technical ABO-3 and 1 NCLE  credit.

Effective conversation is the key to get you to where you want to be in your life. Simply put, it's the art of asking and listening. Communication has an impact whenever it occurs in both business and personal settings. We can use communication to influence every interaction in a positive way, by developing the skills needed to be effective in the way we get and take information. 1 ABO and 1 NCLE credit.

2:45PM - 3:45PM: DISPENSING TO THE GENERATIONS

For the first time in modern history, six generations are now alive at the same time. The largest demographics today are the Baby Boomers and the Millenials. Soon the Millenials will out-number Baby Boomers which gives us great opportunities to care for their visual needs. Millenials are the 'electronic' generation, in that they have always had computers and smart devices as part of their daily lifestyles. Their need for lenses to relax accommodation and to protect from blu-light are ever present. Additionally, the senior population have specific visual needs as the eye ages. This course will focus on the patterns of behaviors of the different generations, and their specific needs. We will round out the conversation with optical solutions for each generation, including tips for dispensing to the various groups. 1 ABO and 1 NCLE credit.

4:00PM – 5:00PM PRISM: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Phernell Walker II, BSB, NCLC, ABOM

Prism is not a four letter word, but can be frustrating for some. This fun and interactive course makes understanding and calculating prism easy. We will explore both prescribed and accidental prism, contact lens and prism applications and limitations. Students will learn about Geometric Optics of light, Prentice Rule Made Easy, decentration, prism distribution methods, verify prescribed prism and compounding and resolving prism. 1 Technical ABO-3 and 1 NCLE credit.
